Interview with (2-Year-Old) Jessica

Nathalieland: Jessica, can you believe the moment has come?
Jessica: What moment?

N: I have spent the last 24 months interviewing you, watching you grow, and learning all about you. What a privilege it has been. Let's take a final trip down Memory Lane...

J: Wow!

N: So Jessica, tell me about your two-year-old self.
J: I'm an easy-going girl who loves her Mommy, Sissy, and Daddy. I love being silly and making people laugh. I'm very affectionate and love being held, hugged, tickled, and kissed. I'm not a fan of loud noises at all, and have started plugging my ears whenever I get nervous or hear something that's "too loud".

N: Sweet. Any new skills?
J: I'm not sure if you could call it a skill, but I no longer (want to) sit on my booster seat. I sit on a big chair like Sissy does... And no falls yet! Also for the last month or so I spend a lot of time in underpants. I'm a big fan of my sister, so I want to be just like her; I wear underpants (or nothing at all!) and when I feel the urge to go, I ask for a diaper. I've sat on the potty a few times with no success and have had a few accidents as well, but I'm taking it all in stride.

N: Way to go, Jessica! So you and your sister are getting along?
J: Better than ever. We spend lots of time together and are really enjoying exploring our new house together.

N: Tell me about your new house and the things you like/don't like about it. How was the transition?
J: The transition was totally fine -- I'm not sure I even noticed. I like playing Legos in our new playroom, I like the big room full of toys in the basement, and I especially like to play in Mommy and Daddy's bedroom. Sissy and I gather up our blankies, toys and books, and play in their bed (because it's just a mattress on the floor). We also like to play dress-up in their closet! One thing I don't like about our house is all the construction noise around.

N: What's your sleep like these days?
J: Much to my Mommy's dismay, naps are hit-and-miss lately. At night time, I usually go to bed around 7:30-8:00pm and sleep for about 11 hours. Getting me to sleep isn't as big of a struggle as it used to be, but I'm still not in love with sleep and would much rather play or eat!

N: Speaking of eating, any changes in your diet?
J: No, it's about the same as last month. I have tried two new things this month: chocolate milk and pistachios. Love them both!

N: Jessica, thanks again for taking the time to tell me all about you. Our interviews will slow down from now on, but don't worry, I'll still be watching you grow every day.
J: Looking forward to it. p.s. You're a little late on this interview, missy!

N: Yes, I know. Please forgive me. It's been busy with your birthday and the move!
J: Ok, I forgive you. À la prochaine.

Interview with (18-Month-Old) Jessica

Jessica: Absolutely! Feels like I've been here forever.

N: Let's take a quick trip down Memory Lane...

N: Now in honour of your special age, and to save myself a bit of time and work, I decided to do a LIVE interview with you. I'm so happy you took the time to sit down and chat with me.
J: Ooh, let's see.

 Episode 1: The 18-Month Interview

N: For the record, if I ask you "who's your favourite, Mommy or Daddy?", you say "Daddy". It turns out that you always pick the second choice. Ha!
J: Maybe it's because I don't actually have a favourite. I like to alternate.

N: I noticed you're quite the talker!
J: Yes, I've even started using sentences this month, like "Mommy sit there." and "Woody face go over there." (when I'm working on the "Woody" puzzle).

N: That's great Jessica. Thanks again and have a great month.
J: You too! Bye!
