Las Vegas - Red Rock Canyon

Day 5

Head towards the mountains!

Having seen all that we wanted to see on the Las Vegas Strip, we were now ready for something that was a little more our style: hiking in Red Rock Canyon. Of the 25 hiking trails accessible through the Scenic Drive, we chose Calico Tanks: a moderately difficult, 3.54 km, 2-hour trail with 398 ft of elevation.

Steve thought the sign said "No Shouting"

We started our hike around 9:15am, so the weather was just perfect -- sunny, starting at 13°C and reaching 20°C by the time we finished at 11:35am. The trail went from flat/stone/sand paths to climbing up a series of boulders, until we reached the peak with sweeping views of Las Vegas. The best words to describe the hike were breathtaking, challenging, and memorable! I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

We made it to the end! Views of the Las Vegas Valley

The toughest part of the hike for me was the downhill climb -- my injured knee was not happy! Fortunately Steve provided support whenever I needed it. ♥

Finishing off the hike with a Scenic Drive

In the afternoon we checked out a gift shop, got some ice cream, played pool, and once again spent some time in the hot tub. What a great day!
