Building a Home:: Step 23: Purchasing Light Fixtures

Light fixtures have all been ordered (over a month late -- big oops!). I was so focused on other details that I let this one slide through the cracks until the last possible minute. Though most fixtures will still be delivered on time, a couple of them are on back order until past the closing date. In those cases, the builder will just install a keyless bulb and I believe it'll be up to us to install the right fixtures when they come in. So my advice to anyone building is: shop early and stick to the deadlines!

I did most of my shopping online and at Lighting Reflects Design (a great new retailer in the Kingston area). I'm confident and happy with most of my choices -- I'm just a little unsure about some of the ones I received from my online purchases. We'll see once they're installed. Light fixtures are being delivered to the house this weekend and will be installed next week!

Interview with (21-Month-Old) Jessica

Nathalieland: Jessica! Has it really been a month already?
Jessica: Hard to believe, but yes, I'm 21 months old now!

N: Awesome. How was your month?
J: Good, good. I spent lots of time with family, enjoyed the outdoors, celebrated Valentine's Day, and unfortunately caught a cold.

N: Aww that's too bad. How do you handle being sick?
J: I'm a wreck. I shriek if I have boogers in my nose, but also shriek if someone tries to wipe them. Other than that I'm pretty clingy (which my mom doesn't mind) and my sleep is hit-and-miss. Luckily I'm all done being sick for now! The only thing that's bothering me is my second molars poking through...

N: Oh no! Has that affected your mood?
J: Just my sleep. I've been waking up very early lately -- between 5:30-5:45am. Mommy is not a fan of that!

N: Have you learned anything new this month?
J: I can recognize all standard colours (blue, red, green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, brown, black, and white). I love getting dressed and can put on my snow pants, socks, and boots all by myself. Speaking of which, a sentence I use a lot these days is "Jessi do it BY SELF!"

N: No need to yell, Jessica. Do you get worked up a lot?
J: I have started tantruming a bit. I've thrown myself on the floor crying a few times this month. One afternoon I tested my mommy's patience because I did NOT want to get my pyjamas on, read books, or have a nap.

N: What are some things you enjoy doing (other than having tantrums)?
J: I still enjoy puzzles (though not as much), painting, dancing, and playing with my big sis. I'm also great at singing, talking, and "reading" books. I've recently gotten into crafts, which involves me drawing, peeling stickers, and glueing pieces of paper together.

N: Are you and your sister getting along?
J: Better than ever! We fight like sisters do, but for the most part we play and giggle together. Some of our favourite things to do together include dancing, playing stickers, doing crafts, or playing with Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.

N: How wonderful! I assume no changes in the eating department?
J: Not much, except I have three new favourites: oatmeal, pomegranates, and peanut butter sandwiches.

N: Sounds yummy! And healthy! Anything else you'd like to add?
J: I'm a very polite little girl. I willingly say "yes please" when offered something, "excuse me Mommy" when I want Mommy to move, and "thank you!" when I get something. I also wanted to mention that I don't care much for being wrapped up in a towel and rocked/sung to after baths like I used to. I think my mommy misses that! ha.

N: Well I hope you have a great 22nd month. Now go to sleep!
J: Check it out... This is me pretending to sleep. zzz...

Construction - Week 19

As predicted, they tiled the mudroom, powder room, foyer, and basement bathroom this week.

Park in the Winter

We had a relatively warm day last week (sunny and -4 C (25 F)), so we decided to venture out for a walk to the park! The girls only lasted for about 10 minutes, but it was fun nonetheless.
