Go Mario!

Jessica's Mario birthday party was a success! 8 of Jessi's friends came over to celebrate with us. There was lots of playing in the basement, giggles at the table, a small activity, and presents for the birthday girl. As always, the party was a great outlet for my artistic inclinations.

their very own cactus "piranha plant"

Steve and I make a great team in the kitchen: he's the baker and I'm the decorator. This year's cupcakes were inspired by Goomba!

Boo balloons!

The girls were so sweet at the start of the party: any time a new guest arrived, they all excitedly ran to the door to greet her. They were all very excited to be there!

Party time!

Still loving the block-smashing game after all these years

Some of the guests were a little "wilder" than others...

...some chose to hide from the noise

When it came time for cake, the girls sang a bilingual version of Happy Birthday (alternating lines in English and French). It was so cute I wish I had taken a video!

Party animals!

The small activity I had planned was teaching the kids the Cup game made popular by the movie Pitch Perfect. I had enjoyed learning the cup pattern when I was in elementary school and was surprised that I still remembered it after all these years!

I taught Jessi how to do it a few weeks ago and thought her friends would enjoy learning it too. We watched the music video for When I'm Gone, then we sat in a circle and worked on the pattern together.

It was cute! If the kids keep practicing at home (with their cup and instructions), they'll speed up in no time.

Happy 7th Birthday Jessica!

My baby turned 7 years old today! We celebrated with family last weekend, which included a lovely walk to the waterfall in the woods behind our house.

Happy birthday to you!

Emily and I wrapped Jessi's presents and worked on her card yesterday evening, so Jessi woke up today ready to celebrate!

Birthday breakfast request: pancakes

It definitely was a special day: after picking Jessi up from school we went to Costco for her (our) favourite treat: ice cream!

So big and yet still so little...

The best!

A little water play

Updating the growth chart - 47" tall

And of course Jessi and I continued our tradition of getting a picture of the two of us on her birthday. Getting almost too big to hold in my arms...

Happy birthday, my sweet!
