Trick or Treat!

Today we had a fabulous time getting ready for the big night, trick or treating in our (generous!) neighbourhood, selecting some treats to eat, and giving treats out at the end. Luckily the weather was milder than we were expecting: 2ºC and no rain, instead of rain and below zero temperatures. With multiple layers under their costumes (4 shirts, 2 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of socks), hats, mittens, and winter boots, everyone was warm and comfortable! Ha.

My only regret is that I forgot to take good (front-facing) pictures of the girls in their costumes! Will have to do better next year. Happy Halloween from Nathalieland!

It's been a nice quiet day at home for the birthday boy. We're all on the mend from our colds, with just a few lingering symptoms (a nagging cough for me), so we were able to relax and enjoy the day. Looking forward to celebrating with family this weekend!

House Full of Sickies

This probably won't happen very often, but right now all four of us are sick! It started on Thanksgiving weekend: Steve had a sore throat when we were at Grammy's cottage. He recovered fairly quickly, but a few days later Emily got sick. Sore throat, fatigue, eye mucus, and a persistent cough at night time. A week later she was seemingly on the mend, but then on field trip day her nose started running! We think she caught two colds back to back. Her nose is getting better but she's still struggling with a dry nighttime cough. Meanwhile my sore throat started last week and now I'm in the stuffy-nose-and-coughing phase. Jessica and Steve both started their versions of the cold two days ago and are suffering through runny noses, fatigue, fever, chills, and sore throats. With all of us sick at once, it means the house is a giant mess, no one is getting enough sleep, and we all wish we had someone to take care of us!

Field Trip to Fruition Farm

On Friday Emily had her first field trip of the school year! The students, teachers, and parent volunteers (myself included) went to Fruition Farm to visit the pumpkin patch and corn maze. This is the same farm we go strawberry picking at every year, so it was a fun and familiar place to be. The kids all enjoyed themselves and thankfully the weather was lovely too. Emily opted out of the bus ride with her classmates at the last minute -- instead she joined me for a car ride with another mom and classmate. It worked out perfectly because the girls had nice quiet/snack times before and after the trip.
