Joe Beef's Lobster Spaghetti - Good, would make again
I don't normally have lobster lying around, but every year my parents go to an all-you-can-eat lobster charity dinner. This year I decided to buy a couple of leftover lobsters from the dinner. What a treat! This lobster spaghetti recipe was delicious. The ingredients all work well together and the lobster flavour really shines. Looking forward to making this one again next year! Ha.

Lemon Poppy Seed Dressing - Bad, would not make again
This lemon poppy seed dressing was not well balanced. I finished my salad but didn't particularly enjoy it. A few days later I tried this lemon poppy seed dressing and it was an improvement, but a little too sweet. Third time's a charm: I made the second recipe with reduced sugar (1/4 cup instead of 1/3 cup... it could probably go even lower) and it was good -- will likely make it again.

Roasted Garlic Cream Sauce - Good, would make again
Steve and I were looking for a garlicky cream sauce to have with chicken, and this one was a hit! We used a whole head of garlic for half the sauce ingredients, and the balance was great (not too strong or garlicky). We ended up roasting the garlic on the BBQ for 45 minutes before grilling our chicken. Next time we might try roasting the garlic in the oven, since it did end up pretty charred. I'm sure we'll make this one again -- it'll be a great alternative to our classic Alfredo sauce.

Homemade French Fries - Good, would make again
We had some cheese curds that needed to be used up, so I got a craving for poutine! My expectations were pretty low for my first attempt at home-cooked french fries, but I was pleasantly surprised. They turned out light and fluffy on the inside, crispy and salty on the outside. Lovely! The only caveat is that cooking with oil is not easy (or cheap since we used olive oil). We tried our best to keep the oil at the correct temperature, but that meant we had to pay constant attention to it for over 20 minutes. Luckily Steve and I worked together so we could both keep an eye on the fries and cook the rest of our meal.
La Poutine
We've now made these fries a handful of times since the first time, and they haven't turned out as good as that first batch. Admittedly we keep trying to cut corners (not soaking the potatoes, not doing multiple batches, not caring as much about the oil temperature, etc), and then we end up with fries that are either too mushy, too browned, etc). It would be nice if the recipe was a little more forgiving! We still like it, but we're also starting to consider trying out the T-fal ActiFry...

Homemade Rosé Sauce - Ok, would make again
After having a nice pasta meal with rosé sauce in Oshawa, Steve and I decided we wanted to try a recipe at home. The main issue we ran into with our first attempt is that we didn't have tomato sauce in the pantry, so we tried combining tomato paste, water, and spices for a makeshift tomato sauce. Bad idea! Our rosé sauce ended up too tomatoey and pretty plain-flavoured. A few days later we tried this recipe again, using our go-to marinara sauce (olive oil, garlic, canned tomatoes, salt, pepper, fresh basil) as the base. We served the rosé sauce at Emily's family birthday gathering and it was delicious! The quality of the tomato sauce really made a difference.

Layered Salmon Crumble - Ok, would not make again
This meal was fine, but not the kind we'd want to make again. We made a couple of changes out of necessity: using boiled cubed potatoes instead of home fries, using mozzarella cheese instead of gruyère, and omitting the roasted red peppers. The spice/flavour was decent, the salmon a little overcooked, and overall just... meh.
